Workshop Details
This workshop consists of 5 painting days exploring the landscape of the Southern blue ridge. We'll begin the workshop in the studio Monday morning with talks and demonstrations, have an early lunch ("Dutch") at one of Saluda's delightful cafes and head out to paint.
There isn't a more beautiful time to paint the Southern Blue Ridge landscape. Fall foliage, waterfalls and winding streams provide spectacular opportunities for painting and photography.
Saluda’s "Main Street Historic District" has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places and her Victorian summer homes, the area’s spectacular foliage, waterfalls and winding streams provide unparalleled opportunities for painting.
The workshop is open for beginners to advanced, with one to one instruction in watercolor, oil, acrylic, and pen and ink sketching. Participants may work in any or all media. A materials list will be sent to all participants.
The price of the workshop is $475 and includes 30 hours of instruction and a "get acquainted" cocktail party. Because the workshop is limited to 15 painters, I encourage you to send your enrollment form with deposit as soon as possible. Arrangements for travel and accommodations should be made privately and immediately as October is a most popular time to visit this scenic area.
There is airline service to Asheville, NC and Greenville/Spartanburg, SC . Each is about 35 minutes from Saluda. Rental cars are available at both airports. On the internet, several bed and breakfast inns and cottage rentals can be found by searching for ""Saluda, NC"". Many other possibilities can be found in nearby Hendersonville, NC.
All participants must provide their own transportation to the painting sites but we will assist in setting up car-pools. We will gather each day at exactly 8:30am in downtown Saluda and will caravan to painting sites. We will conclude at 3:30pm each day, leaving time for shopping or siesta before your evening plans. In event of inclement weather we will paint in my studio in Saluda.
The area is home to outstanding golf facilities and there are opportunities for fishing, canoeing, horseback riding, river rafting and antique shopping.

Paper towels and a few small plastic grocery bags for debris.
Bring a plastic bottle with a tight screw lid, such as an empty peanut butter jar for carrying dirty mineral spirits.
For easels, if you have a French easel, that is best; but a small paint box with an aluminum folding easel is good. Paint boxes and French easels should come with mahogany palettes.
I would also like for the oil painters to have a small watercolor set for sketching.
We’ll spend some time developing quick travel sketching techniques. Bring several fine, roller point pens and a sketch pad with several watercolor brushes.
Bring a canvas bag such as a “boat bag” or a back pack to carry supplies. A folding stool or light chair is important. (Be sure it is something you can carry, we won’t always be close to our cars.
Naturally, insect repellent, sun-hats, sun block, painting clothes, camera and film!
If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please write or call. I’ll be sending our exact schedule later. Thank you and I’ll see you soon.
